Diet plan for all the Constitutions

Diet plays important role in balancing all the constitutions.

Diet for the Vata constitution:

A person who has an excess of Vata humor in their bodies has to restrict foods with pungent, bitter or astringent tastes. He should also keep away from stale foods, cold foods, and dry snacks.

The following foods can further aggravate Vata humor and should be curtailed:

1. All Legumes

2. Grains: Corn, Barley, oats, millets, rye.

3. Vegetables: Brinjals, green leafy vegetables, cauliflower cabbages, cucumber, french beans, cluster beans, raw onions, green peas, potatoes, tomatoes, sweet gourd, ridge gourd.

4. Fruits : All dry fruits, pomegranate, water melon and pear.

5. Betal-nuts

The following foods pacify Vata humor and are therefore, beneficial.

1. Cereals : wheat, rice.

Pulses: Moong and Urad in small quantities.

3. Vegetables( all cooked): Carrots, Beets, onions, raddish, pumpkin, ripe tomatoes and sweet potatoes.

4. Fruits: apple. banana, goose berry,ber, cherries,figs,grapes,guava,mango,melons,papaya,peach,pineapple,plum, mosambi.

5. All nuts, dairy and oils.

6. Fennel seeds and betel leaves.

Kapha constitution:

Persons who has excess kapha humor in their bodies should restrict the intake of foods with sweet, sour or salty tastes.

The following foods can further aggravate, Kapha humor and should be curtailed:

1. Pulses: Moong, Urad, Soyabeans, chola.

2. Grains: Millets, Oats, new rice and wheat.

3. vegetables: Cucumber, french beans, cluster beans, pumpkin, sweet gourd, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, ridge gourd.

4.Fruits: Coconuts, fresh figs, bananas, grapes, guava, lemon, melons, oranges, papaya, plums, and pineapple.

5.Dairy products: Avoid all expect ghee.

6. Oils: Avoid all except corn, sunflower only small quantities.


The following foods can pacify kapha and are therefore, beneficial:

1. Legumes: Gram, green peas, red lentils, matki tur and vall.

2. grains: Barley, corn, basmati rice.

3. Vegetables: Beet, brinjals, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, garlic, green leafy vegetables, green peas, bitter gourd, lady’s fingers, onions, potatoes, raddish and tomatoes.

4. Fruits: Goose berry, apple, berries, cherries, jamoon, dry figs, mango, peach, pear, pomegranate.

5. Oils: Small quantity of ghee.

6. Dairy products: Small quantity of ghee

7. Betel-leaves, betel nuts, fennel seeds.

Pitta Constitution:

Persons with an excess of Pitta humor in their bodies should, restrict the intake of foods with pungent, sour or salty tastes. They should also keep away from stimulants like tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol and cola drinks, etc. Spicy foods should also be avoided.

The following foods can further aggravate pitaa humor and should be curtailed:

1. Pulses: Chola. Urad.

2. Grains: Corn, millets, brown rice, rye.

3. Vegetables: Beet, brinjals, carrots, garlic, bitter gourd, onions, raddish, tomatoes.

4. Fruits: All sour fruits, banana, berries, cherries, green grapes, lemon, orange, papaya, peach, pineapple, plum.

5. Nuts: Avoid all except coconut.

6. Dairy products: Buttermilk, curds, cheese.

7. Oils: Corn, Sunflower, til

8. Honey.

The following foods pacify pitta humor and are, therefore, beneficial.

1. Legumes : Gram, green peas, matki, moong, soyabeans, tur, vaal.

2. Grains : Barley, basmati rice, oats, wheat.

3. Vegetables : Cabbage, Cauliflower, cucumber, french beans, gawaar, green leafy vegetables, green peas, potatoes, pumpkin, turai, sweet gourd.

4. Fruits : all sweetfruits, aavla, apple, apricots, ber, black grapes, chickoo, coconut, dates, figs, guava, jack fruit, jamoon, mango, melons, pear, pomegranate, seetafal.

Dairy products: milk, butter, ghee, ice cream.

Oils: coconut, soya, sunflower.

7. Beel-nuts.

These are the dietary suggestion for all prakerties.
